Grade 8 and 9 Parent, Student, Teacher Options Meeting

June 1, 2007

Dear Parents,

At this time of year we require that students in Grade 8 and Grade 9 make option choices for their courses in the next phase of their study. Grade 8 students who are now moving on to Grade 9 are required to study a broad selection of subjects in order to keep their options as wide as possible prior to making decisions on courses for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) when they enter Grade 10. However, some new subjects are introduced as Options in Grade 9 to provide opportunities for students to experience these before making their Grade 10 choices.

Students currently in Grade 9, who will be moving on to Grade 10, are required to study 8 subjects at the IGCSE level. The challenge is for them to choose a programme that will qualify them to participate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme as well as lay the foundation for their career goals.

A meeting is therefore being planned for students and parents of Grades 8 and 9 on Tuesday June 12, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. to provide the relevant information as well as advice and support in making well-informed choices within the range of subjects currently on offer at Hillel Academy. This meeting will provide you with more information on the IGCSE and IB programmes as well as give you the opportunity to discuss with teachers the aims, course content and examination format of each subject area.

It is extremely important that all parents and students attend this meeting to ensure sound decision-making in charting the course of our students.

Best regards,

Lloyd Holmes
Senior Coordinator
