The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra came to Jamaica for the first time, and their first stop was Hillel. On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, fifteen members of the orchestra visited the High School Assembly, playing and leading interactive music sessions, led by Mr. James Redwood. The students and staff responded enthusiastically, singing along and showing their appreciation in wild applause. Following the assembly, a performance workshop was held for 50 High and Prep School students who brought their instruments for the occasion. The RPO national tour was organized by the National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica (nyoj.org). The Hillel PTA and the NYOJ brought the orchestra to Hillel. Many thanks to PTA President Nigel Clarke for his campaign for excellence, which culminated in this magnificent visit. The students will never forget their morning with the Royal Philharmonic. Hillel will host additional RPO workshops on Sunday September 16, 2012 from 10am to 4pm.
